Steeped in legends, the picturesque Golden Lane is one of the highlights of any visit to Prague Castle. It was once home to castle workers and, as the name suggests, goldsmiths. The small houses were inhabited until World War II. In 1917 Franz Kafka had his study at house No. 22.
Nowadays the houses in the Golden Lane have become small boutiques, galleries and exhibition spaces.
The staircase in house No. 12 leads up to the terrace which in turn leads to the Daliborka Tower, once used as a prison.
