Nerudova Street runs from the top of Malostranské Square uphill to below Prague Castle. It was once the main route leading to the castle and part of the Royal Way. An interesting feature of the street are the period doorways of some of the houses, their old decorated doors and the distinctive house symbols – plaques, small statues and pictures positioned above the doorway. In the Middle Ages these were used instead of house numbers. Houses usually got their name from the house symbol on the outside.
