A Gothic castle from the mid-13th century with Baroque modifications; owned with few interruptions by the Šternberk dynasty. The historical interiors modified in the Baroque style feature rich stucco and painted decorations, valuable furnishings and family collections (the Knights’ Hall, the dining room, St. Sebastian’s Chapel, the Hunters’ Salon, the bedroom, the room belonging to Kašpar Šternberk with family portraits.) The exhibit features a collection of copper-engravings dating back to the Thirty Years’ War and collection of 17th century miniatures – the so-called “Dutch silver”.
There is also a breathtaking view of the Sázava river, largely abundantly studded with boats of paddlers and canoeists passing by, down from the courtyard of the castle.
After visiting the castle, do not turn to the right to the car park on your way back, but go straight and follow the tourist path, which will lead you to the forward bastion of the castle - the dungeon. A view of the massive central tower shaped like a triangle is waiting for you and on the first floor of the tower you will see the strategically arranged loop-holes. The upper platform, accessible using the spiral staircase, offers a lovely view of the surroundings of the castle.
Notice: Going up the tower is not recommended to people suffering from claustrophobia or dizziness.
