Parking is free, i.e. where you find a place :-) in the municipality of Bubovice. Go on foot the forest unpaved way from there.
On coming in the place pass through the unguarded gate and you are in the quarry area. You can see immediately the narrow-gauge railway, the open-air exhibition of sample stones from this quarry,
the building belonging to the trackage… To get to the quarry centre – the open-air museum, continue on foot approx. 300 meters along the railway on which a sightseeing train ride than leads.
The open-air museum plan consists of:
a) The museum itself – the building with the former offices and stores. It creates the permanent exhibition History of Limestone Mining and Transport in the Czech Karst (HIstorie těžby a dopravy vápence v Českém krasu). A collection which relates to mining, both surface and underground, is presented there. In addition to small exhibits such as lamps or picks also examples of cableway cars and accessories and part of quarry narrow-gauge railway wagons are also situated in the covered areas.
b) The main attraction – the field quarry railway with a gauge of 600 mm, representing a visual example of raw material transport in tipping wagons towed by a Diesel locomotive.
c) The Adit
d) The hoisting winch – a functional device (using compressed air) for the transport of wagons between individual quarry levels.
You will be showed round the whole exhibition by a guide, which takes about 1 h.
